Mykonos Sightseeing
Ano Mera Village
About 8 km from Mykonos town is Ano Mera, the most populated village on the island. Consisting of several scattered settlements, having as center the Cloister and the Panagia Tourliani church. Worth visiting are also the Monastery of Paleokastro, on the opposite hill, where one can see the remains of a Byzantine castle. There are remains of the ancient fort of the site, and also of graves of the Geometric period. Because of the areas peaceful environment and location, where from visitors may have easily access to the splendid beaches of Kalo Livadi, Elia , Kalafatis and Agia Anna. In the small central square you shall find taverns and pastry shops serving traditional sweets.
Lighthouse – Armenistis
The lighthouse Armenistis is at the northeast of the island and 7 km away from Mykonos Town . This lighthouse (Armenistis) was manufactured in 1891. The altitude of tower is 19 meters and the height of focal plane is 184 meters. The mechanism of first lamp of “Armenistis” is exposed outside by the building of Aegean Naval Museum that is located in a traditional building of 19th century, in center of Mykonos, near to place Three Wells (Tria Pigadia).
Panigirakis Castle
The gorgeous Panigirakis Castle stands elegantly above the Chora of Mykonos. This breathtaking property, bathed in wild flowers and green trees all year round, is a mosaic of secluded alcoves, cobblestone pathways and majestic views. In the distance, the sister islands of Mykonos – Syros, Tinos and Delos – rise above the endless Aegean Sea. The marvelous sunsets, a collage of a million colors, ceaselessly wash this windmill-dotted dreamland. Meanwhile, the Chora of Mykonos, with its little allies, whitewashed building and cozy squares awaits below the Castle. Panigirakis Castle continues to be the favorite place for tourists, photographers and filmmakers who seek to discover and capture the true spirit of Mykonos and the Greek Islands.
